Judy Murray is a British tennis coach and administrator. Having played tennis professionally in the 1970s,[1] she became a youth coach at a national level in Scotland.[2] She was involved in the early coaching of a number of Scottish players who went on to become professionals, most notably her sons Andy and Jamie Murray, as well as Jamie Baker,[3] Colin Fleming and Elena Baltacha.[4]
Murray took on a lager role of developing and scouting out youth talent for the Lawn Tennis Association in 2007,[2] although she has continued her work in Scotland.[4] Her ongoing role in Andy Murray's career has occasionally been questioned, including by Boris Becker who feared that her presence might stop Andy's development as an independent player back.[5] Judy has roundly rejected this claim,[6] and she is no longer part of Andy's coaching staff.
In December 2011, Murray took on a new role with the LTA, becoming the captain of the Great Britain Fed Cup team.[7] In doing so, she will seek to guide them to the World Group II during the 2012 Fed Cup.
